Prepping Agent Instructions
LEATHERIQUE® PREPPING AGENT #3
"Simply The Best Since 1968"
Leatherique® Prepping Agent #3 is the third stage in the restoration of damaged leather in readiness for application of Leatherique® Crack Filler #4 and re-dying with Leatherique® Leather Dye #5.
Prior to Use:
- Leatherique® Rejuvenator Leather Conditioner #1 and Leatherique® Pristine Clean #2 should be used prior to prepare your leather for dyeing.
- Have Readily Available: Wet/Dry Sandpaper - 400/600/1000 grit, and Paper Towel.
- Do Not Ingest: Keep out of reach of children.
Step 1:
- After the leather has been rejuvenated and cleaned it is now time to prepare damaged areas.
Step 2:
- Add some Prepping Agent #3 into a clean small container. This is to be used to dip you wet and dry sandpaper into
- Lightly wet-sand the leather with 600 grit to smooth out any cracks and hangnails in the surface.
- Wipe surface regularly with soft rags or paper towels to remove as much of the faded or oxidised old leather dye as possible.
- Ensure you keep your sandpaper wet. Then re-sand with 600 grit for lacquer, or 1000 grit for water base to create a perfect flawless finish ready to apply your new dye.
Step 3:
- Wipe the surface clean with dry paper towel.
It is now ready to re-dye.
Note: You’ll need to break down the top surface by light sanding with 600 wet and dry sandpaper. This is important so the new leather dye can bite into the leather and look natural. Nothing is more glaring and obnoxious than leather that looks like vinyl due to heavy built up of surface colourant and improper prepping. Once you have completed all the steps of first nourishing your leather hides, prepping, and then leather redye, you will have emulated the original process with which your hides were first tanned.
