Canvas Dye Instructions
LEATHERIQUE® CANVAS DYE
"Simply The Best Since 1968"
Leatherique® Canvas Dye: This innovative polymer coating is highly praised for its effectiveness in restoring canvas. It offers excellent results when applied correctly, allowing you to recolour your existing canvas and even change colours.
Usage Notes:
- Always Perform a Trial Test Patch: Before starting your canvas restoration project, it's essential to conduct a small trial test patch to ensure compatibility and desired results.
- Coverage: One litre of Canvas Dye covers approximately 6 square metres (can be up to 9 subject to the porosity of the canvas). For optimal results, apply in two coats covering 3 square metres each.
- Read All Directions: Prior to beginning your project, carefully read and understand all provided instructions.
- Safety Precautions: Wear rubber gloves and eye protection during the application process. In case of skin contact, rinse with soap and water immediately. Do not ingest the product.
- Clean up using warm water.
Required Materials:
- Canvas Dye
- Plastic mixing bowl
- Bucket and mild detergent soap
- Soft broom, sponge, and brush (depending on canvas size)
- Hose or bucket for water
- Brush or sponge for dye application
- Latex gloves
- Mixing paddles
Application Procedure
Step 1: Preparation
- Thoroughly wash the canvas with mild detergent and water, using a brush or broom to remove dirt and debris.
- Rinse the canvas well with fresh water to remove any soap residue. Allow it to dry completely.
Step 2: Mixing
- Shake the dye bottle well to ensure thorough mixing (a marble inside assists with this process).
- Pour the entire contents of the dye into a plastic container and mix thoroughly. This step is crucial as colour pigments may settle at different levels. Stirring ensures a consistent colour.
- If not using the entire amount, pour the mixed dye back into the bottle for storage.
Step 3: Application
- Once satisfied with the colour mix, apply the dye using a sponge, brush, or damp sponge, in multiple light coats rather than a single heavy one.
- Stir the dye frequently during application to maintain pigment consistency.
- Allow the first coat to dry for approximately one hour before applying a second coat or painting the inside of the canvas.
Step 4: Drying
- Allow the canvas to dry for 48 hours before folding or storing to ensure the dye sets properly.
These revised instructions aim to provide clear and concise guidance for successfully using Canvas Dye.
